Macklind International Welcomes Chinese Senior Group

October 5, 2017 By Jason Baker

Over the past several years, Macklind International has hosted special events for Chinese-speaking seniors.  Beginning in late September, we will be hosting a recurring Chinese senior group in an effort to expand services and engage isolated populations.  The program for last Monday’s group included a health insurance Q&A, hand yoga, chair exercises (and, apparently, some out-of-chair exercises), painting, a hot nutritious meal, Chinese music, and something called a “clip beans race” that got rather competitive.  A good time was had by all, and our agency shuttle transported the seniors back home.  Our Chinese-speaking Community Access Worker Cathy Xu and our volunteer Kaci helped facilitate the first regular group visit.  The group will be returning every other Monday for activities, education, assistance, and fellowship with their peers.

The United Way of Greater St. Louis Safety Net of local nonprofit agencies helps one out of every three residents in our region. THAT'S A LOT OF PEOPLE, and it includes many of us on staff here at Bilingual International. Which is part of the reason why we are proud to host - for the second year now - an admittedly modest employee contribution campaign to support the same Safety Net that funds our work.
