One Monday a month, thanks to the talented instructors at Perennial Community Workshops, our crafty women from the Afghan senior group at Macklind International Senior Center are able to participate in an engaging workshop. Last Monday, September 25th they learned how to create stepping stone mosaics with salvaged glass and tile at Perennial, and how to create leather and copper jewelry from reclaimed electrical wire.  Perennial staff uses recycled materials to create different projects, teaching people how to creatively reuse things that they have.

Many of our clients are refugees and suffer from the effects of the trauma experienced in their country of origin or during migration.  For many, working with their hands proves to be soothing and has therapeutic value.  Our seniors really look forward to the workshops. They enjoy the interaction with the staff, as well as being able to see friends and catch up.

If you are interested in volunteering with our senior groups or just want to support our continued efforts working with refugees and immigrants, please consider donating through our website.
