Meet Senior Center Coordinator Eli Hoxha!

February 17, 2016 By Jason Baker

Eli’s relationship with Bilingual International began in 2013 while she pursued a degree in Social Work at St. Louis University. One of her introductory courses required a twenty hour commitment to a organization; Eli continued to volunteer with us after completing twenty hours because, as she says, “Bilingual is an organization that brings awareness and care to one of the most vulnerable and isolated populations, foreign-born elders.”

Now, almost three years later, she is our Senior Center Coordinator and Administrative Assistant. Eli coordinates five different cultural senior groups and manages their transportation, meal preparation, and daily activities. She is also responsible for database management across many different Bilingual International programs.

Eli says, “As a volunteer, what attracted me to Bilingual International was the genuine care the organization had. Now, as a staff member, that same care keeps me dedicated. To anyone who is considering volunteering with Bilingual International, I would say it’s one of the most unique opportunities one gets to experience, empowering a population who otherwise feels powerless.”

The United Way of Greater St. Louis Safety Net of local nonprofit agencies helps one out of every three residents in our region. THAT'S A LOT OF PEOPLE, and it includes many of us on staff here at Bilingual International. Which is part of the reason why we are proud to host - for the second year now - an admittedly modest employee contribution campaign to support the same Safety Net that funds our work.
