With the start of a new school year, Bilingual International is once again providing critical support to immigrant and refugee youth in area schools.  The young people we work with confront many challenges in their countries of origin, in their journeys to the United States, and/or in their transitions to a new country and culture.  The support we provide is critical to helping them develop resources to cope, learn, grow, and thrive.

This past year, we worked with some truly remarkable young men with a variety of cultures, languages, and experiences – but with a common love of soccer.  Bilingual International staff raised funds independently to cover costs associated with putting together a soccer team for the annual Cup of Nations.  Staff members acquired jerseys, arranged transportation, coached, and were there to cheer on the team on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at St. Louis University High. With the generous support of those who made donations and provided support, the Bilingual International team successfully competed in the tournament.  And with continued support, our hope is to continue participation in the tournament next year.  Special thanks go out to Olivia Walter (“Assistant Coach” – Project Safe Space) and Mario Camere, Esq. (“Coach” – Care Access for New Americans/Survivors of Torture), who put in the work to make this event happen.
